Musical Skills Lab I

MU137° facilitates the acquisition of the Musical Skills sequence-level objectives in diatonic music of basic complexity. Melodies will include stepwise motion and skips within the tonic triad and dominant seventh chord, in the major and minor modes, in simple and compound meters, including note values as short as the division of the beat. Rhythmic exercises will include note values as short as the subdivision of the beat in simple and compound meters and other diatonic sevenths, in the major and minor modes, in simple and compound meters, including note values as short as the division of the beat. Rhythmic exercises will include note values as short as the subdivision of the beat in simple and compound meters with a quarter- or dotted quarter-note beat, without syncopation. Prerequisites: MU102A or MU102B. Exclusions: MU187°. Notes: MU137 may be challenged for credit.
