In this course, students develop their theoretical and practical understanding of the elements of music therapy processes, including forming and navigating therapeutic relationships, conducting assessments, creating goals/objectives, and evaluating therapeutic progress. Students learn and practice the skill of clinical writing while developing their awareness of the music therapist's role on the interdisciplinary team. Students also build their critical understanding of ethical standards and professional issues pertinent to current music therapy practice. Clinical cases are highlighted to demonstrate course topics and all course material is applied to students' simultaneous practicum experiences. Prerequisites: Year 3 standing in the music therapy program.
