This two-semester course is an independent thesis under the direct supervision of a faculty member. Students work with their supervisor to select a topic, design the project, receive research ethics board permission as appropriate, and collect and analyze data. The research project culminates in an oral presentation and a formal report. Prerequisites: Registration status: Year 4 Minimum cumulative GPA: 9.0 Eligible programs: any Honours major in a FHSS department or program (Criminology, Community Health, Game Design and Development, Psychology or Public Safety) or completing a FHSS minor or option (Leadership) in conjunction with a FHSS major. Permission of a FHSS full-time faculty member (Criminology, Community Health, Game Design and Development, Leadership, Psychology, or Public Safety) who agrees to supervise your thesis. At the time of registration, students must have completed PS295 and PS296, or OL/CC/HS 233, or equivalent 200-level or higher research methods/statistics course as appropriate to the disciplinary focus of their thesis project. Prior completion of, or concurrent registration in, more advanced methods and/or statistics courses (e.g., CC327, CC425, CC426, etc.) may prove useful to the student depending on the thesis project. Registration Notes: Students wishing to complete a thesis must 1) identify and receive permission from a full-time FHSS faculty member who will act as their supervisor and then 2) apply to the FHSS Dean’s office for admission by April 1 of Year 3.
