This course deals with the fundamentals of organic chemistry. The topics considered include carbon compounds and chemical bonds, introduction to functional groups, acids and bases in organic chemistry, nomenclature in organic chemistry, stereochemistry of carbon compounds, ionic reactions: nucleophilic substitutions and elimination, radical reactions, reactions and synthesis of alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, alkyl halides. Prerequisites: CH111 or CH131. Exclusions: Exclusion: CH204, CH206. Notes: 3 lecture hours, 3 biweekly lab hours.
