CH 203
Organic Chem II Structure
This course deals with the structure of organic molecules and the role of functional groups in organic reactions and synthesis. The topics considered include introduction to mass spectrometry, common spectroscopic methods of molecular structural analysis: UV, IR and NMR, aromaticity and aromatic compounds, functional group chemistry and art of organic synthesis, reactions and synthesis of alcohols and phenols, ethers, aldehydes and ketones, carboxylic acids and their derivatives, and amines.
Prerequisites: CH202 or CH206.
Exclusions: CH205, CH207.
Notes: 3 lecture hours, 3 biweekly lab hours.
